Boost Your Shoulder Workout with the Arnold Press! 🏋️♂️
Hey MuscleWiki faithful,
What's up, folks? It's Coach Ty here, and I've got something exciting to share with you today! I'd like to introduce you to Elda, an incredible group coach at The Rec Room in Grand Cayman. You can find her at instagram.com/eldafuentesr, and I highly recommend giving her a follow.
Today, Elda and I are taking you through the Arnold Press, a fantastic exercise that can help you build those front and side delt muscles. What's great about this exercise is that it has a natural rotation of the shoulder joint as you press, making it an excellent choice for those who experience shoulder pain during traditional pressing exercises. So if that's you, this might be your new favorite!
But here's the deal – there's more to this exercise than meets the eye. There's a specific form to master to get the most out of it. Elda is here to demonstrate the correct technique.
Form Tips:
Rotate and Press: One common mistake is rotating first and then pressing, which can diminish the exercise's effectiveness. Instead, you want to rotate as you press, maintaining a smooth and controlled movement.
Maintain Strong Wrists: Keeping your wrists in the right position is crucial, especially as you increase the weight. It's easy to strain your wrists, so pay attention to this detail.
Keep a Flat Back: Throughout the exercise, ensure your back remains flat. Imagine pulling your ribcage down towards your pelvis to maintain proper posture.
Stance Matters: You can go with a shoulder-width stance, but I prefer a wider stance. This helps prevent the use of your legs for momentum and takes pressure off the lower back. It's a small adjustment that can make a big difference.
Avoid Hyperextension: Never hyperextend your knees. Instead, maintain a slight bend for added stability.
Now, Elda and I are going to guide you through this exercise, so grab your dumbbells and follow along! Remember to focus on your form and keep those shoulders engaged.
