Today, we're zeroing in on a crucial yet often overlooked area: the forearms. Let's dive straight into the anatomy, research, my personal volume recommendations, and the most effective exercises for formidable forearms.
Understanding Forearm Anatomy
The forearm is a complex structure, housing 19 muscles that facilitate both forearm and hand movements. For simplicity, we'll focus on three primary sections: the anterior and posterior parts of the forearm, and the brachioradialis as a distinct category. This breakdown is essential for targeting these areas with precision in your training regimen.
The Science of Forearm Training
Despite the limited research specifically on forearm training, we understand the importance of dynamic contractions for muscle growth. Exercises incorporating both eccentric and concentric movements are superior to static contractions alone. That said, I'll still introduce an effective static move to complement our dynamic exercises.
Training the Brachioradialis
The brachioradialis, a key elbow flexor, plays a pivotal role in our forearm training. To effectively engage this muscle, incorporate elbow flexion movements with a neutral grip into your routine, such as the hammer curl.
Exercise Recommendations
